Laser-cluster interaction: x-ray production by short laser pulses.
We investigate the heating of the quasifree electrons in large rare-gas clusters (N exceeding 10(5) atoms) by short laser pulses at moderate intensities (I approximately = 10(15) W cm(-2)). We identify elastic large-angle backscattering of electrons at ionic cores in the presence of a laser field as an efficient heating mechanism. Its efficiency as well as the effect of collective electron moti...
متن کاملObservation of subpicosecond x-ray emission from laser-cluster interaction.
We present the first experimental evidence of the subpicosecond duration of x-ray pulses emitted from laser-irradiated clusters, demonstrating the suitability of such a debris free target for ultrafast x-ray science applications. The K-shell emission (approximately 3 keV) from large Ar clusters (6 x 10(5) to 4 x 10(6) atoms) is time resolved, when irradiated by ultrashort (40 fs to 5 ps) and in...
متن کاملEnhancing X-ray generation by electron-beam-laser interaction in an optical bragg structure.
We demonstrate that x-ray radiation emitted by relativistic electrons scattered by a counter-propagating laser pulse guided by an adequate Bragg structure surpasses by about 2 orders of magnitude the energy generated by a conventional free-space Gaussian-beam configuration, given the same e beam and injected laser power in both configurations.
متن کاملX-ray generation by femtosecond laser pulses and its application to soft X-ray imaging microscope
We have developed laser-produced plasma X-ray sources using femtosecond laser pulses at lOHz repetition rate in a table-top size in order to investigate basic mechanism of X-ray emission from laser-matter interactions and its application to a X-ray microscope. In a soft X-ray region over 5 nm wavelength, laser-plasma X-ray emission from a solid target achieved an intense flux of photons of the ...
متن کاملComparison of Bone Mineral Density Measured by Dual X-ray, Axial Dual-energy Photon X-ray Absorptiometry and Laser Absorptiometry of Calcaneus
The objective of this study was to validate the use of bone mineral measurements of the calcaneus bone by dual X-ray and laser (DXL) in a cross-sectional study carried out in an osteoporosis clinic. Measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) at proximal femur and spine were obtained by dual-energy photon X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Osteoporosis was defined by a DEXA T-score <-2.5 at the femora...
